Health Insurance for Vermont Self-Employed

Self-employed entrepreneurs and their families living and conducting business in Vermont are eligible to participate in either community-rated or association-sponsored group health plans, thereby accessing health insurance at a lower cost when compared to the non-group (individual) health coverage. Carriers will want proof that you are legitimately self-employed in Vermont; this can usually be accomplished by providing a copy of your most recent IRS Schedule C "Business Income and Expense Form". In the case of a newly-formed business, a copy of the trade-name registration with the state, promotional materials or similar evidence will usually suffice.

If you are paying exorbitant premiums for your Vermont health insurance and are operating a solo business in Vermont, you are encouraged to contact BDS to determine if we might find a comparable or perhaps even better coverage at a more favorable cost.

Many of our self-employed clients are quite satisfied with the Health Savings Account type of medical plan with the accompanying tax-favored bank account. Visit the HSA link to see if one of these plans might be suitable for you and your family.
