About Benjamin A. Bosher, Jr.

Ben Bosher, principal of Benefit Design & Strategies, LLC, established the agency in April, 2001. The firm specializes in the full compliment of group employee benefits. Benefit Design & Strategies clients are located throughout the northern and mid-Vermont and range in size from 6 to over 100 employees. Mr. Bosher is also licensed in New York State.

Over the past five years Mr. Bosher has developed an expertise in consumer driven health plans including Health Savings Accounts (HSA's) and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA's), as well as their interplay with a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan. No less than 65% of his group clients have converted to one of these types of plans, resulting in lower premiums and greater employee satisfaction. In 2005, he earned the designation of Chartered Benefit Consultant through the Chicago-based National Association of Alternative Benefit Consultants, Inc.

Ben Bosher began his group insurance career over 13 years ago, first as a sales consultant with a South Burlington, VT third party administrator (TPA) for 5 years marketing partially self-insured medical plans and ancillary self-funded benefits. This was followed by a brief association with a St. Albans brokerage firm before venturing out on his own.

Prior to the group benefits profession, Mr. Bosher enjoyed several long and successful sales careers in mortgage banking and residential real estate. His earliest employment was in urban planning working for the cities of Burlington and Winooski. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont, Class of 1971, with a BA in Political Science.

Mr. Bosher volunteers for several non-profit organizations. He currently serves on the ReCycle North Board of Directors, Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) Development Committee, Blue Cross Blue Shield of VT Broker Advisory Committee and the Long-Range Planning Committee of the Malletts Bay Boat Club.

Mr. Bosher is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR), the Vermont Ethics Network and the Burlington Referral Organization (BRO) and an associate member of the Vermont Human Resources Association. He has served as a Notary Public since 1981.
